A pair of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health Learning Network stories written by senior editor Tom Valentino have been recognized in the 2019 All Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards presented by the Press Club of Cleveland.
“Oral health an additional concern for providers to chew on,” written for Addiction Professional, earned second place in the Features: General category. The article detailed the often-overlooked oral health issues that can be caused by abusing various illicit substances, and also provided oral health tips for substance use disorder patients in recovery.
“Cryptocurrencies could be catching on,” published on the Learning Network’s Behavioral Healthcare Executive vertical, took second place in the Features: Trends category. This story explored the trend of addiction treatment facilities accepting cryptocurrency as payment for their services, including the pros and cons, as well as the risks involved. The article also shared one healthcare company’s effort to launch its own cryptocurrency that is linked specifically to addiction treatment services by rewarding patients with currency for completing recovery-related tasks.
